Get together with fellow folk fans and help us raise the roof twice a month! IF YOU KNOW FOLK MUSIC, SING IT LOUD AND PROUD AND/OR PLAY AN INSTRUMENT, WE CAN'T WAIT TO MEET YOU!!! We take turns selecting a song for the group to sing and play (passing's OK). Most of our songs come from the Rise Up Singing book, so if you have a copy, bring it along. (If you don't, you can borrow or buy one from us.) You also have the option of going solo or handing out lyrics to a song not in the book. Whatever …
Welcome beginners and more experienced alike! For enthusiasts of Norwegian folk music and dance in the Baltimore-Washington-Frederick area. Our monthly Norwegian-style house parties have tasty potlucks, friendly company, and lively dancing. We share moves and sometimes have informal classes. Newbies are welcomed, encouraged, and otherwise assimilated. Out-of-town visitors are always a treat; if you plan ahead we can probably put you up at someone’s house. What is our favorite dance? The springar …
Creating community, sharing and fun in Rockville through music. Let me know if you are interested in starting something up! I play guitar and recorder and play Latin American and Irish folk music, ballads, and Appalachian old-time tunes. However, anyone is welcome as long as you bring copies of songs or are willing to let people know what chords to play!
Rock, Folk, Blues, Pop, Jazz, and sometimes Country! This group thrives on the energy of the live performance of singer-songwriters, classic bands, and up and coming musicians. We often patronize venues without reserve seating; 9:30 Club, Birchmere, Rams Head Live, Jammin Java and the lawns at Wolf Trap, Merriweather Post, and Jiffy Jube Live. Didn't buy an advance ticket online, that means you didn't get ripped off on the service charge. Need a night out with nice people? Sign up last minute an …

This group is dedicated to vinyl records appreciation. The plan is to just bring in a variety of records then all meet up at a local bar that has agreed to let us play them. Viola! We all show up and get a drink at the bar and groove to some tunes and talk/share knowlege. I had originally planned for music of 60's/70's because that is what I know best. But I think there is SO Much good music out there that is being lost or forgotten. So I'd like to open it up to Classical, Jazz, comedy, 20's 30 …

This group’s purpose is to organize regular acoustic jam sessions in a supportive and friendly environment. This is not an open mic. As I see it, the purpose of an open mic is for an individual to prepare a 15-20 performance and present it to an audience. In contrast, the purpose of this group is to offer the individual, novice to advanced, an opportunity to play with others in a relaxed group environment. So come and by and listen, play or sing. There are beginners who have only been playing a …
The Northern Virginia Musicians Workshop is a monthly event where musicians of ALL skill levels can practice the Art of Performing in front of an audience and share feedback with encouraging peers. I think it's different (but not better) than a jam or a song circle, because it was created to provide you the platform to try out new songs, covers and stories in a low-stress environment. Jerad Walker of WAMU 88.5 Bluegrass Country describes it like "Toastmasters for musicians." And it totally is. …

Sacred Circle Dances are moving meditations that integrate mind, body, and spirit, leading to harmony and balance. These are simple and gentle dances that have meditative qualities and ancient roots in dances of the folk, with music from around the world. Dancing together, we create community and connect to ourselves and others. No partners needed; no previous dance experience is necessary. All dances will be taught each time. Our philosophy of dance is, "there are no mistakes, only variations."
