Like to sing? Or play? Like FOLK music? The only thing we won't have is a campfire!

You don't have to be a professional singer or an experienced musician to participate in a Sing-Along! Just bring what you've got -- your voice, your instrument -- and plan to have a good time! Plenty of opportunities here for jamming and/or for impromptu harmonizing. There are no wrong notes -- just have fun and let everybody have a turn at what they like to do!

The agenda for this first meeting will be: Arrive, get acquainted, SING! For future meetings, we may choose a theme, such as: River Songs for one meeting (Michael Row the Boat Ashore, etc.) and War Songs for another (such as The Cruel War is Raging, Johney has to fight...).

We will follow the rules used when we belonged to the Columbus (Ohio) Folk Music society (http://www.cfms-inc.o...) for sing-alongs -- whenever possible, we share songbooks (Rise Up Singing is a particularly popular listing of the world's great folk music). We'll spend a little time at the end, discussing when to have the next meeting if we haven't settled this by email prior to the Sing, choosing themes, or anything else that seems important to people.

The Coming Together Center is easy to find -- just north of downtown Dayton, right off I-75 with its own parking lot. (The $2 requested fee is to reimburse the location for them turning on the heat so that we can meet there.) Since the Coming Together Center already puts on concerts (and has good contacts in the GOSPEL music community), they have offered to send a couple guitarists our way, so we are assured having several guitarists at the meetup!

FOLK music lovers from outside of Meetup.com have contacted us about this meetup -- enthusiastic dulcimer players and acoustic guitarists as well as professional and non-professional singers. We expct to have a nice group!

I work in Columbus - the opposite direction. I got home from work too late to make it in time. I was really looking forward to it. I will plan on attending next time. I play autoharp, so I can bring that along.

Search my profile for photos of the Coming Together Center, where we will have our first meeting. My car is parked on the building's south side. To its left is the door we will enter (view closeup shot to see this). This location is free (we'll donate our $2 to cover their costs) -- our noise won't bother anybody -- and we have access to a kitchen if we want it. If the group likes the location, we could later use the next door auditorium for events(!). Two huge parking lots, north and south.
