The New York Folk Music Meetup Group
|
Our purpose is to have a great time singing and playing all kinds of folk music as a group. Anyone who loves folk music -- from the 60's Woodstock era to the present, including roots music, Irish music and folk/country -- will enjoy this group. We welcome those that can sing and/or play wonderfully and those who like to sing along or just listen. We welcome all acoustical musicians who love the genre and enjoy having others sing along. If as a result of this meetup, other gatherings emerge -- from trips to folk festivals, audiences for open mics or member performances, lists of coffeehouses or great venues -- that will all be gravy.

Our next meeting:
The New York Folk Music May Meeting
Our next meetup will be at Tompkins Square Park for a picnic. Assuming the best -- that it will be a gorgeous day -- several folks have asked that we start earlier -- at 1:30PM
If you can't make it until 3, that is cool as well. If it rains, we'll email the group by 11AM May 18 and we'll hold it at Sachs Insights, 200 Varick St. -- Suite 500 -- our usual place. Read more

"Hi, my name is Aviva and I love singing, especially folk songs."
-
Bluegrass -- Ralph Stanley and many others
-
"Hi all, and thanks for the group"
-
"I cannot take credit where credit is not due--The Water Is Wide was Jay's request. But all the others are mine. I think I've used Chordie a couple of times--I just Google a song name plus "chords" and then check out whatever sites come up and try to choose the one that looks most complete & easy to follow."
-
"Debbi, I like the Traditional and Folk Music website that you posted. The Water is Wide is a really nice song. There is a similar website called www.chordie.com . It has a variety of types of music and artists and most of the songs have Chords and words. Robert (new member)"
-
"Hi, I'm Jean and I play the mountain dulcimer."
-
"Greetings. Classical/jazz guitar player looking to meet and play with others. I can read music and play nylon fingerstyle. I am open to whatever may arise!"
-
"Not a musician although I do read music! I love 60s and 70s music, and currently listening to music of the folk revival of the early 60s. Anyone going to the Newport Folk Festival this summer??!!"
-
"Hi I hail from Scotland and have left a great Scots folk music choir behind so I am really looking forward to singing/listening to some folk music."
-
"I was raised on folk, sang doo-wop in Washington Square Park for many years and miss singing harmony. Would like to find some good harmony again."
-
"Folkie all my (young) life. I sing pretty well but play guitar extraordinarily badly - haha... Also, I swoon for banjos. I've been looking for a casual group to sing with in NY for a long time now: am psyched to meet up with you all!"
-
"Now live in Briarwood, Queens"
-
"I just love folk, bluegrass and acoustic music and am a big fan of singer-songwriters, such as James Taylor. Would like to join others in singing along to 60's folk and other great classic songs! "

Ultimate Guitar had 2 different versions and I don't know the difference between the two, so I'm uploading both. You can also find this at http://www.ultima...
