Mid-April reminds us of the Three Certainties:
(1) Death... (2) TAXES... (3) SOJO ! *
(*Apologies to my old schoolmate, the great Roz Chast. Her 1981 "Three Certainties" cartoon -- thanks to which Ben Franklin's two certainties have long ago been supplanted in my brane -- seems to be nowhere on the Web, and I won't infringe copyright by posting it; but here's a description: http://sleeplesscoffe... )
There will certainly be a Sing Out-Jam Out (SOJO) at our usual indoor Crystal City location on Saturday, April 19 from 2 to 5 pm, and it will <Curly> soitenly </Curly> be a lot more fun if YOU are there! (And: YOUR GUEST(S)!) Come and sing and/or play and/or listen; bring your copy of Rise Up Singing (Caryn or Elie or Margi will have some new or gently used ones for sale, or for lending to first-timers; and anyone who dares can borrow my notorious, recently-replaced first edition, which is held together, somewhat, by an elastic) and some water to quench your cantogenic thirst (bottled water is sold in nearby stores and from a vending machine in the basement laundry room).
I'll walk over from my office a few days before the 19th and pay the building management the $75 it costs us to rent the room for 3 hours. When we meet, there'll be a box on the table with a sign asking if you can spare $4 or so toward the rent. I'm not very concerned about making the $75 back (as it happens, I usually do make most of it back, and a few generous folks have even insisted on reimbursing me in advance against any future shortfalls), but I am very concerned that some people may stay away from SOJO because of money. So if you can't or won't spare $4, or anything at all, don't worry about it -- come anyway. Dayenu, dayenu.
Your fond fiend and bother,
Freddy**
